Three new movies opened nationwide this past Wednesday:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy Tammy directed by Ben Falcone and starring Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Allison Janney, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass, Dan Aykroyd, Kathy Bates, Toni Collette and Nat Faxon. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Bridesmaids, The Heat). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as two songs by Possum Creek earlier this week. Also opening wide is the family sci-fi adventure Earth to Echo directed by Dave Green and starring Teo Halm, Brian “Astro” Bradley, Reese Hartwig and Ella Linnea Wahlested. Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, The Raid, Tron: Uprising) has composed the film’s original music. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score, as well as the song Worlds Away performed by Dia Frampton. The third wide release is the horror thriller Deliver Us from Evil directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez, Olivia Munn, with Sean Harris, and Joel McHale. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Hellraiser, Entrapment, The Shipping News) who previously collaborated with the director on The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister. Expanding nationwide following a limited release last weekend is the documentary America directed by Dinesh D’Souza & John Sullivan and produced by Gerald R. Molen about the men who built America including Christopher Columbus, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Bryan E. Miller has composed the film’s original music. Opening in New York before expanding to other cities within the next few weeks is the documentary Life Itself directed by Steve James and executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Zaillian. The film’s original music is composed by Joshua Abrams (The Interrupters, The Trials of Muhammad Ali). No word yet on a soundtrack album. Life Itself recounts thelife of world-renowned film critic and social commentator Roger Ebert. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Magnolia Pictures for U.S. distribution. Also opening in limited release is the teen comedy Premature directed by Dan Beers and starring John Karna, Craig Roberts, Katie Findlay, Alan Tudyk, Adam Riegler and Carlson Young. Nick Urata (Ruby Sparks, Crazy, Stupid, Love, Little Miss Sunshine, I Love You Philip Morris) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. Premature follows a teenager who is poised to finally lose his virginity and finds himself having to relive the same day over and over again until he gets it right. The comedy premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and was picked up by IFC Midnight for domestic distribution. Another limited release this weekend is the comedy School Dance directed by Nick Cannon and starring Bobb’e J. Thompson, Luenell, Mike Epps, George Lopez, Katt Williams, Wilmer Valderrama, Dashawn Omar Blanks, Langston Alexander Higgins, Julian Alexander Goins and Kristinia DeBarge. The film’s original score is composed by Geoff Zanelli (Disturbia, Hitman, Ghost Town, The Pacific). No soundtrack album has been released. School Dance follows a high school freshman who wants to be part of the most popular dance clique in his school, but has no clue how he’s going to pass the initiation. The movie is being released in select theaters and VOD by Lionsgate.
