  1. Tiago Rangel says:

I’m a fan of Desplat, but his scores to Argo and Zero Dark Thirty were extremely boring, at best. I don’t know why the Grammy people prefer these to Howard Shore’s The Hobbit, for example.

The best soundtrack nominated is the superb John Williams’ Lincoln, although is most likely Life of Pi win another award.

    • some guy says:

I agree (at least I don’t think ZD30 should be nominated, Argo is worthy of the nomination). I was really expecting Howard Shore to get the nomination for the Hobbit.

    • David says:

Maybe Argo, but Zero Dark Thirty was an exercise on suspense music. Desplat used the orchestra in a different kind of ensemble than most of the scores. Cues like Flight To Compound, Seals Take Off (which included the main theme played in a very Barry-esque fashion), 21 Days, Picket Lines, Dead End, Maya On Plane, Chopper and Back To Base shows a different kind of Desplat, it’s his United 93, and a conclusion to his Middle Eastern/politican thriller trilogies.
