The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosted its 27th Annual Film & Television Music Awards last Thursday night, June 28, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The awards celebration honored composers of the top box office film music, the most performed television music and the top video game music of 2011. The honorees included composers Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, John Powell, Michael Giacchino, James Newton Howard, Carter Burwell, Trent Reznor and Patrick Doyle. Check out the full list of winners after the jump. As previously reported, Trevor Rabin was this year’s recipient of the Henry Mancini Award for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music. Director Jon Turteltaub, who worked with Rabin on three of his films (National Treasure, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) presented the award to Rabin and introduced a video montage highlighting his film career (including Armageddon, Deep Blue Sea, Remember the Titans, Snake on a Plane and Con Air). Following his acceptance speech, Rabin performed the hit song Owner of a Lonely Heart, which he wrote for the rock group Yes, with the band Grouplove, featuring his son Ryan Rabin, who also performs on the composer’s latest solo album Jacaranda, on drums. Grouplove also performed their hit single Tongue Tied. The evening’s other performances included Siedah Garrett who performed the song Real for Rio from the animated hit film Rio, for which she has received an Academy Award nomination earlier this year with co-writers Sergio Mendes and Carlinhos Brown. In addition, Josh Kelley performed the theme song of the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly, which the Georgia Clay singer co-wrote with Keb’ Mo’.
