Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is Dreamworks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted directed by Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath & Conrad Vernon and featuring a voice cast including Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter, Jessica Chastain, Bryan Cranston and Martin Short. Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the film’s score composed by Hans Zimmer, as well as the songs featured in the movie by Peter Asher, Yolanda Be Cool and Katy Perry. Also opening wide is one of the most anticipated films of the year, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus starring Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Ben Foster. Marc Streitenfeld has composed the film’s score and Harry Gregson-Williams has provided additional music. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring Streitenfeld’s music, as well as two tracks by Gregson-Williams. Click here to check out our soundtrack announcement. Opening in limited release is the indie comedy Safety Not Guaranteed directed by Colin Trevorrow and starring Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson, Karan Soni, Lynn Shelton and Kristen Bell. The film’s score is written by Ryan Miller who is best known as the lead singer of the rock band Guster. ABKCO Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Miller’s music, as well as the song Big Machine by Mark Duplass and tracks by Summer Fiction, Hearts on Fire, Guster’s and The Hoppin’ Haole Brothers. Also opening in limited release this week is the indie comedy Lola Versus directed by Daryl Wein and starring Greta Gerwig, Joel Kinnaman, Zoe Lister-Jones, Hamish Linklater, Bill Pullman and Debra Winger. Lakeshore Records has released two different soundtracks for the Fox Searchlight release, including an album featuring the film’s songs by artists including Big Troubles, The Ettes, Vex Rufflin, Dan Deacon, Seapony, The Fruhstucks, Class Actress and Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers. Another limited release this week is the period drama Bel Ami directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod and starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci and Colm Meaney. The film’s score is written by Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman and Lakshman Joseph De Saram. Varese Sarabande Records has released a soundtrack album for the film. Also opening in select cities is the indie comedy Peace, Love & Misunderstanding directed by Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy) and starring Jane Fonda, Catherine Keener, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chase Crawford, Elizabeth Olsen, Rosanna Arquette and Kyle Maclachlan. Spencer David Hutchings has composed the guitar-driven score of the film, which also features on-screen song performances by Dean Morgan and Katherine McPhee. No soundtrack album has been announced. The comedy premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and has been picked up for US distribution by IFC, which will also release the film on VOD on June 15. The final limited release of the week is the crime drama For the Love of Money directed by Ellie Kanner and starring Edward Furlong, Jeffrey Tambor, James Caan, Paul Sorvino, Steven Bauer, Oded Fehr and Jonathan Lipnicki. Jerome Dillon (The Collector) has composed the film’s original score.
