Hans Zimmer is set to score the upcoming racing drama Rush. The film is directed by Ron Howard and stars Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, Olivia Wilde and Alexandra Maria Lara. The movie centers on the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda and their Formula One racing teams, McLaren and Ferrari during the 1975/76 season, as both were pushed to the breaking point of their psychological and physical endurance. Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) is writing the screenplay and is also producing alongside Howard, Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind), Brian Oliver (Black Swan), Eric Fellner (Atonement) and Andrew Eaton (A Might Heart). Zimmer and Howard have previously worked together multiple times, most recently on the movie adaptations of The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons, the comedy The Dilemma and the Academy Award-nominated drama Frost/Nixon. Rush will begin principal photography in early 2012 in Silverstone, England, and Nurburgring, Germany. Universal Pictures is handling domestic distribution and is expected to release the movie in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Apart from Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which is coming out this weekend, Zimmer also has Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated The Dark Knight Rises, as well as the animated sequel Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted coming up next summer. The Dark Knight Rises is set for a release on July 20, 2012 and the third Madagascar film will be landing in theaters on June 8.
