Film Music Reporter has learned that Alan Silvestri has signed on to score the upcoming comic book movie Captain America: The First Avenger. The film marks the first collaboration between Silvestri and director Joe Johnston, who previously has worked with such composers as James Horner, Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard and Mark Isham. The film also marks Silvestri’s first scoring assignment since last year’s summer action film The A-Team and his first comic book adaptation since 1995’s Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone. A number of composers, including Michael Giacchino and John Powell have been rumored to take the scoring assignment, but ultimately Silvestri was hired to score the film. Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Dominic Cooper is scheduled to open on July 21, 2011. As previously reported, Alan Menken is also involved in the film’s music, presumably writing a song for the time when Captain America is in the USO.
