Film Music Reporter has learned that Dario Marianelli has been hired to score Focus Features’ upcoming movie adaptation of Jane Eyre. The movie is directed by Cary Fukunaga, who previously directed 2009’s indie hit Sin Nombre which featured a score by Marcelo Zarvos. The new adaptation stars Mia Wasikowska in the title role, as well as Judi Dench, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell and Sally Hawkins. Jane Eyre centers around a mousy governess who softens the heart of her employer and soon discovers that he’s hiding a terrible secret. Marianelli also has the comedy drama Hippie Hippie Shake coming up, which the composer co-scored with Christian Henson. The movie about counterculturalist Richard Neville’s misadventures in London at the end of the 1960s is directed by Beeban Kidron (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Swept from the Sea). The film stars Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Derek Jacobi and Max Minghella. Hippie Hippie Shake has been completed a while ago and has been pushed back several times. No current release date for the movie is set at this point.
