Christophe Beck is currently finishing up his score for the comedy remake Death at a Funeral. The Screen Gems produced movie based on the 2007 Frank Oz directed comedy stars Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Luke Wilson, Zoe Saldana, Danny Glover and James Marsden. In the movie, a funeral ceremony turns into a debacle of exposed family secrets and misplaced bodies. Death at Funeral is directed by Neil LaBute (Nurse Betty, Possession, Lakeview Terrace) and is scheduled to come out on April 23.
Christophe Beck also has the comedy Hot Tub Time Machine coming out later this month. The movie starring John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Crispin Glover and Chevy Chase was directed by Steve Pink (Accepted). The movie is dominated by pop songs from the 80’s, but also features a few moments for the score to shine, including the time traveling scenes. Hot Tub Time Machine also includes a song co-written by Christophe Beck and his brother Jason Beck. A soundtrack album has been announced to come out later this month by Rhino Records, but features no selections from the score.
Two more movies scored by the busy composer will be released in April. The drama The Greatest starring Pierce Brosnan, Carey Mulligan and Susan Sarandon and featuring a melodic piano-based score premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and will finally receive a limited release on April 2 . On April 9, the comedy Date Night starring Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco and Mila Kunis will be released. The movie is directed by Shawn Levy (A Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther) and features an action-driven score worthy of a CD release.
Later this summer, Paramount is scheduled to release the documentary Waiting for Superman scored by Christophe Beck. The Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) directed movie about the American education system premiered at this year’s Sundance film festival.
Beck’s music can currently be heard in theaters in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief with a score album out on ABKCO Records. To listen to an interview with the composer about the score, check out this YouTube link.
