Parallel 45 & Films Boutique will release a soundtrack album for the drama The Monk and the Gun. The album features the film’s original music composed by Frédéric Alvarez (The Third War, Love According to Dalva, Louloute). The soundtrack is already available to stream on select digital music services in France (visit the French Amazon Music store to check out audio samples) and is expected to be available in other markets soon. The Monk and the Gun is written and directed by Pawo Choyning Dorji and stars Tandin Wangchuk, Deki Lhamo, Pema Zangmo Sherpa, Tandin Sonam and Harry Einhorn. The movie, which was shortlisted as the Bhutanese entry in the International Feature category at this year’s Academy Awards, is set in 2016 as the isolated Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan prepares to become the world’s youngest democracy and tells the story of a Buddhist lama sends sho his disciple on a journey across the nation to bring him guns by the full moon to “set it right”. The drama, which premiered at last year’s Telluride Film Festival, was released in select U.S. theaters this past February by Roadside Attractions and is now also available on VOD.
