Studiocanal, Monumental Pictures and Focus Features announced today that Nick CaveWarren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Hell or High Water, The Road, Blonde) have recently been recording their score for the upcoming biographical drama Back to Black. The film is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy, Fifty Shades of Grey) and stars Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse, Jack O’Connell as Blake Fielder-Civil, Juliet Cowan as Janis Winehouse, Eddie Marsan as Mitch Winehouse, as well as  Lesley Manville as Amy’s grandmother, Cynthia. The movie charts Winehouse’s vibrant years living in London and her intense journey to fame. Matt Greenhalgh (Control) wrote the screenplay. Giles Martin is in charge of music production. Alison Owen (Saving Mr. Banks, Elizabeth) and Debra Hayward (Les Miserables, Ghosts) are producing the project with Nicky Kentish-Barnes (About Time, Everest). Back to Black will open in UK theaters on April 12, 2024 and will be released in the U.S. on May 17 by Focus Features.
