Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror comedy Renfield directed by Chris McKay and starring Nicholas Hoult, Nicolas Cage, Awkwafina, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ben Schwartz, Brandon Scott Jones and Adrian Martinez. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, A Quiet PlaceLogan, 3:10 to Yuma, Ford v. Ferrari, The Hurt Locker). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide is the supernatural horror thriller The Pope’s Exorcist directed by Julius Avery and starring Russell Crowe, Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe and Franco Nero. Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Babadook, OverlordMacbethThe Mustang, The Oxford Murders, Assassin’s Creed) has composed the film’s original music. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening nationwide is the crime comedy Mafia Mamma directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Heffes (The Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void, Queen of Katwe, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, State of Play, Roots). Filmtrax/Atlantic Screen Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Marcus Anderson, Rob Wilson, Maria Mendez & others today. Another wide release this weekend is the sports drama Sweetwater directed by Martin Guigui and starring Everett Osborne, Kevin Pollak, Emmaline, Jeremy Piven,Cary Elwes and Richard Dreyfuss. Jeff Cardoni (Silicon Valley, GhostsThe Kominsky Method, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Heels) and Guigui have composed the film’s original music. Fallout Shelter Recordings has released a soundtrack album featuring Cardoni’s score earlier this week (click here for the full album details) and Candid Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie today (click here for more information).

Also opening wide is the Japanese animated fantasy adventure Suzume written and directed by Makoto Shinkai and starring (in its English dub version) Nichole Sakura, voiced by Josh Keaton, Jennifer Sun Bell, Joe Zieja, Lena Josephine Marano, Bennett Hetrick, Rosalie Chiang and Roger Craig Smith. The film’s original music is composed by Radwimps (Your Name, Weathering with You) and Kazuma Jinnouchi. A soundtrack album featuring the music from the movie last fall when the film opened in Japan and is available to stream/download here. The movie is being released in the U.S. by Crunchyroll.

Opening in New York and Los Angeles today before expanding nationwide next weekend is the horror comedy Beau Is Afraid written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Parker Posey,  Kylie Rogers, Amy Ryan, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones and Richard Kind. Bobby Krlic (Midsommar, Blue Beetle, The Returnal, Alienist: Angel of Darkness, SnowpiercerTriple 9) has composed the film’s original music. A24 Music has released a first track from the composer’s score last month (click here to listen to Sail Away) and a full soundtrack album is expected to come out next week.

Also opening in select theaters this weekend is the documentary Wild Life directed by Chai Vasarhelyi & Jimmy Chin. The film’s original music is composed by Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, The Last of Us, Babel, Finch, The Motorcycle DiariesThe Book of Life) and Juan Luqui (MonsterlandThe Fight). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Opening in select U.S. theaters this week is the biographical drama Hilma directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Tora Hallström, Lena Olin, Jazzy de Lisser, Tom Wlaschiha, Anna Björk, Adam Lundgren and Jens Hultén. Jon Ekstrand (MorbiusLife, Borg vs McEnroe, Easy MoneyAll the Old Knives) has composed the film’s original music. Oona Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last fall when the movie opened overseas. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the animated feature Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman written and directed by Pierre Földes (12 and Holding, From Other Worlds). The film’s original music is composed by Földes himself. Cinéma Defacto & Miyu Productions have released a soundtrack album featuring the filmmaker’s score last month when the movie opened in France.
