Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost, Star Trek, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jurassic World, The Incredibles, Ratatouille) has confirmed that he will be reteaming with director Taika Waititi on Marvel Studios’ upcoming feature Thor: Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth is returning to star in the title role and is joined by Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jamie Alexander, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Jamie Alexander and Jeff Goldblum. Kevin Feige (Avengers, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy) is producing the project. Mark Mothersbaugh has previously composed the score for Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok. Giacchino has collaborated with Waititi on the 2019 feature Jojo Rabbit and also composed the music for four other Marvel productions, including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far from Home and the upcoming No Way Home and the first Doctor Strange movie. He also wrote the Marvel Studios fanfare. Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theaters nationwide on July 8, 2022 by Walt Disney Pictures.

Giacchino’s other upcoming projects also include Matt Reeves’ The Batman and Colin Trevorrow’s  Jurassic World: Dominion.

    I’m glad that Mark Mothersbaugh is not returning to compose the score for Thor: Love & Thunder!!! Nice choice of composer, Taika Waititi!!!!

    Shame that Mark Mothersbaugh isn’t returning for this. Thor: Ragnarok had one of my personal favorite MCU scores. But hey, if you’re gonna be replaced by anyone, Michael Giacchino isn’t a bad choice at all.

    Sad for the exit of Mark Mothersbaugh, Ragnarok is one of my favorite MCU movies, but very happy to have Giacchino composing a Thor movie, we are probably looking at his most epic soundtrack
