Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the thriller Bad Samaritan directed by Dean Devlin and starring David Tennant, Robert Sheehan, Kerry Condon, Carlito Olivero, Jacqueline Byers, Tracey Heggins and Robert P. Nagle. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph LoDuca (The Evil Dead, Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Ash vs Evil Dead). Also opening wide is the romantic comedy Overboard directed by Rob Greenberg & Bob Fisher and starring Eugenio Derbez, Anna Faris, Eva Longoria, John Hannah and Cecilia Suarez. Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Love, Crashing, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music (click here for the full album details). The label has also released a separate album featuring the songs from the movie by artists such as Bomba Estéreo, Jacob Forever, Gerardo Ortíz & more (click here for more information).

Also opening nationwide is the comedy drama Tully directed by Jason Reitman and starring Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston. The film’s original music is composed by Rob Simonsen (Foxcatcher, (500) Days of Summer, Nerve, Love, Simon, The Spectacular Now). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Beulahbelle, The Velvet Underground, Rufus Wainwright,  The Jayhawks and Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam. Opening in limited release is the documentary RBG directed by Betsy West & Julie Cohen about the life and career of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Miriam Cutler (The Hunting Ground, Ethel) has composed the film’s original score. Diane Warren has written the original song I’ll Fight, which is performed by Jennifer Hudson. Also opening in select theaters is the WWII drama The 12th Man directed by Harald Zwart and starring Thomas Gullestad, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Mads Sjogard Pettersen, Marie Blokhus and Martin Kiefer. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Ant-Man, Frozen, The Hangover, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Muppets). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works. Also opening in select cities is the comedy The Con Is On co-written and directed by James Haslam and starring Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Alice Eve, Parker Posey, Maggie Q, Crispin Glover, Sophia Vergara and Stephen Fry. Charles Brooks Klarsfeld and Zachary Seman (I Love You, Daddy) have composed the film’s original music. Filmtrax has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score today. Another limited release this week is the Argentine/Chilean drama The Desert Bride (La Novia del Desierto) written and directed by Cecilia Atán & Valeria Pivato and starring Paulina Garcia and Claudio Rissi. Leo Sujatovich (La Antena, Sleepwalker) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score was released last month. Also opening in limited release is the comedy The Cleanse written and directed by Bobby Miller and starring Johnny Galecki, Anna Friel, Kyle Gallner, Oliver Platt and Anjelica Huston. The film’s original music is composed by Rob Simonsen, ESKMO (13 Reasons Why, Billions) and Russ Howard III. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a heartbroken man who attends a spiritual retreat to cleanse himself and fix his broken life, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Vertical Entertainment.

Also opening in select cities is the Belgian crime drama Racer and the Jailbird written and directed by Michael R. Roskam and starring Matthias Schoenaerts and Adèle Exarchopoulos. Raf Keunen (Just a Sigh) who previously scored the director’s Bullhead has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. The drama, which revolves around the relationship between a high-flying gangster and a young racing driver with very upper-class roots, is being released by Super LTD. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the French drama The Guardians (Les gardiennes) co-written and directed by Xavier Beauvois and starring Nathalie Baye, Laura Smet, Iris Bry, Cyril Descours, Gilbert Bonneau, Olivier Rabourdin, Nicolas Giraud, Mathilde Viseux and Yann Bean. The film’s original music is composed by Michel Legrand (The Thomas Crown Affair, Yentl, Never Say Never Again). The movie, which centers on a group of women who are left behind to work a family farm during the Great War, opened in French theaters last year and is being released in the U.S. by Music Box Films.

Also opening in limited release is the romantic comedy Alex & the List co-written and directed by Harris Goldberg and starring Patrick Fugit, Jennifer Morrison, Karen Gillan, Aaron Staton, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Michael Nouri, Gilles Marini, Ryan O’Nan and Elvy Yost. Ryan Shore (Prime, Harvard Man, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, Julie’s Greenroom) has composed the film’s original music. The movie, which follows a young man who undertakes the task of fulfilling a self-improvement list to secure the girl of his dreams, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Gravitas Ventures.
