Javier Navarrete has been tapped to score the upcoming psychological thriller The Widow. The film is directed by Neil Jordan (Interview with the Vampire, The Crying Game, The End of the Affair) and stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Isabelle Huppert, Maika Monroe, Stephen Rea, Colm Feore and Zawe Ashton. The movie tells the story of a young woman who has a chance meeting with a mysterious widow who approaches her with malicious intentions. Ray Wright (The Crazies, Case 39) wrote the screenplay. Sidney Kimmel (Hell or High Water, The Lincoln Lawyer) is producing the project through his production company, alongside Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds), James Flynn (Vikings, The Borgias), Karen Richards and John Penotti (Awake, Uptown Girls). Navarrete (Pan’s Labyrinth, Wrath of the Titans, Mirrors, Inkheart) has previously scored Jordan’s last feature Byzantium. The Widow is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year.
Navarrete has also recently scored the French comedy drama Raoul Taburin directed by Pierre Godeau (Down by Love) and starring Benoît Poelvoorde in the title role. The movie is based on Jean-Jacques Sempé’s book of the same title and tells the story of comic figure of Raoul Taburin, a reputed bicycle shop owner desperate to hide the fact he cannot ride a bike himself. Guillaume Laurant (Amélie) has written the screenplay. The film will be released later this year in France.
