Lorne Balfe has been hired to score the upcoming war drama Horse Soldiers. The film is directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and stars Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Peña, Ben O’Toole, Trevante Rhodes, Austin Stowell, Elsa Pataky, Rob Riggle and Navid Negahban. The movie is based on Doug Stanton’s book of the same title and centers on a U.S. Special Forces team and their captain after they are dispatched to a mountainous region of Afghanistan in the weeks immediately following 9/11. Peter Craig (The Town, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and Ted Tally (The Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon0 wrote the screenplay. Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Rock, Top Gun, Armageddon) is producing the project through his production company, alongside Black Label Media’s Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill (Sicario). Horse Soldiers is set to be released on January 19, 2018 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Balfe’s other recent projects also include the critically acclaimed Ron Howard-produced series Genius, which currently airs every Tuesday night on Nat Geo, as well as the biographical drama Churchill, which will be released in the U.S. on June 2 by Cohen Media Group, as well as the disaster movie Geostorm, which is set to open on October 20, 2017. The composer will also return to score the second season of ITV’s Marcella, which is set to premiere later this year.
