texas-risingJohn Debney and Bruce Broughton are composing the music for the upcoming mini-series Texas Rising. The 8-parter is directed by Roland Joffe (The Mission, The Killing Fields) and stars Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olivier Martinez, Thomas Jane, Crispin Glover, Rhys Coiro, Jeremy Davies, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Christopher McDonald, Max Thieriot, Chad Michael Murray, Trevor Donovan, Robert Knepper, Jeff Fahey, Rob Morrow and Kris Kristofferson. The event series centers on Texas legend Sam Houston and follows his fight for Texas’ independence against Mexican general Santa Anna. Leslie Greif is executive producing the A+E Studios, ITV Studios America and Thinkfactory Media production. Debney has previously scored the Greif-produced mini-series Hatfields & McCoys for History. Debney’s upcoming projects also include NBC’s Odyssey, Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book and <em>Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. He recently also scored the animated hit feature The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the film later this month.

    Broughton was a great thing for TV series and TV movie westerns in the 1980’s, so it’s great to see him not only back to scoring something, but in that genre. The only thing that could have made this more awsome than it is, is if Jerrold Immel’s came out of retirement to score it, too.
