Three new movies opened wide this past Wednesday:

Opening in most theaters this holiday weekend is Dreamworks Animation’s Rise of the Guardians directed by Peter Ramsey and featuring the voice talent of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law. The film’s music is composed by Alexandre Desplat. Varese Sarabande Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Still Dream performed by Renée Fleming and composed by Desplat. Also opening wide is the 3D adventure movie Life of Pi directed by Ang Lee and starring Suraj Sharma, Shravanthi Sainath, Tabu and Gerard Depardieu. The film’s music is composed by Mychael Danna who has previously scored the director’s The Ice Storm and Ride with the Devil. The final wide release of the week is the action adventure Red Dawn directed by Dan Bradley and starring Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Game of Thrones) has composed the film’s score. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring Djawadi’s score. Opening today in limited release is the biographical comedy drama Hitchcock directed Sacha Gervasi and starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, James D’Arcy, Toni Collette, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jessica Biel and Danny Huston. The film’s score is composed by Danny Elfman. Fox Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week and Sony Classical will release the physical version on December 4. Also opening in select cities is the French drama Rust and Bone (De rouille et d’os) directed by Jacques Audiard and starring Marion Cottilard, Matthias Schoenarts, Celine Sallette and Bouli Lanners. The film marks Alexandre Desplat‘s second film to be released this week. A soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well as the movie’s songs by Bon Iver, Azari, John Cooper Clarke, The B-52′s, Lykke Li, Carte Blanche and Colin Stetson has been released overseas.
