Antonio Pinto has signed on to score the upcoming film adaptation of The Host based on the sci-fi novel written by Stephenie Meyer (Twilight). The movie is written and directed by Andrew Niccol and stars Saoirse Ronan as Melanie Stryder, a human living among an alien race called Souls in a dystopian future, whose body and mind is inhabited by a soul named Wanderer. Max Irons, Jake Abel, William Hurt, Diane Kruger, Frances Fisher, Chandler Canterbury and Boyd Holbrook are co-starring. Meyer is producing the film with Nick Wechsler (Magic Mike, The Time Traveler’s Wife), as well as Steve Schwartz & Paula Mae Schwartz (The Road, Killing Them Softly) of Chockstone Pictures. Niccol has previously collaborated with Pinto on the 2005 drama Lord of War starring Nicolas Cage. The director has also worked with composers Mychael Nyman (Gattaca), Carter Burwell (S1m0ne) and Craig Armstrong (In Time) on his other directorial features. The Host is currently in post-production and is set to be released on March 29, 2013 by Open Road Films. Check out the official Facebook movie page for updates on the project.
As previously reported, Pinto also has the action thriller Snitch starring Dwayne Johnson coming up. The composer has also co-scored the documentary short The Odyssey, which has just received a soundtrack release on Lakeshore Records.
