Jeff Russo has signed on to score the upcoming indie drama Cherry. The movie is directed by Stephen Elliot and stars James Franco, Heather Graham, Dev Patel, Ashley Hinshaw, Jonny Weston and Lili Taylor. The film centers on a troubled 18-year old girl who moves to San Francisco, where she gets involved in pornography and aligns herself with a cocaine-addicted lawyer. Elliot co-wrote the script with Lorelei Lee and Liz Destro (Explicit Ills) is producing the project. Cherry was shot this summer in San Francisco and has recently entered post-production. No release date has been announced yet, but the movie isn’t expected to premiere until next year.

Russo is also scoring the USA hit show Necessary Roughness. The composer has taken over scoring duties on the show from Adam Gorgoni who wrote the music for the first couple of episodes (with Tree Adams also providing music for the pilot). The drama starring Callie Thorne, Marc Blucas, Mehcad Brooks and Scott Cohen follows a tough and sexy Long Island divorcee who gets a job as the therapist for a professional football team in order to make ends meet. The show has recently been renewed for a second season and currently airs every Wednesday night on USA. For more information on the show, visit USA’s Necessary Roughness website.
