Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings have announced a soundtrack album for the documentary Little Richard: I Am Everything. The album features some Little Richard’s best-known hits, as well as two previously unreleased covers from Valerie June and Cory Henry. Also included is a track from the film’s original score composed by Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Shirley, The Assistant, Palmer). The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. A CD version is set to be released on September 8 (visit Amazon to pre-order) and a vinyl edition is scheduled to come out this December (click here to order). A “Tutti Frutti” color presssing of the LP edition is available to order exclusively on the labels’ websites. Little Richard: I Am Everything is directed by Lisa Cortés and tells the story of the Black queer origins of rock n’ roll and explores the whitewashed canon of American pop music to reveal the innovator Richard Penniman.

Anna Drubich & Jongnic Bontemps Scoring Diego Hurtado de Mendoza’s & Lisa Cortés’ ‘The Space Race’
Anna Drubich (Barbarian, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Fear Street Part 3: 1666) & Jongnic Bontemps (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, 4400, My Name Is Pauli Murray, Redfall) have teamed up to score the upcoming documentary The Space Race. The film is directed by Diego Hurtado de Mendoza (The Redeem Team) & Lisa Cortés (Little Richard: I Am Everything, All In: The Fight for Democracy) and explores the experiences of the first Black astronauts. The movie features interviews with Ed Dwight, Charles Bolden, Guion Bluford & Victor Glover and spotlights the oft-omitted racial injustice narratives and present-day realities of these pioneers.

Bad Boy Records has released the original song Turntables from the documentary All In: The Fight for Democracy. The track is performed by Janelle Monáe and co-written by Monáe herself, Nathaniel Irvin III and George “George 2.0” A. Peters. All In: The Fight for Democracy is directed by Liz Garbus & Lisa Cortés and – in anticipation of the 2020 presidential election – examines the issue of voter suppression in the United States. The film, which is scored by Gil Talmi (The Great Hack) and also features additional music by Meshell Ndegeocello, interweaves personal experiences with current activism and historical insight to expose a problem that has corrupted our democracy from the very beginning.
