Ludovic Bource has won the Orange British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) in the Original Music category for his score for The Artist. Bource accepted his award in person at the awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. The composer’s competitors in the category were Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Howard Shore (Hugo), Alberto Iglesias (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) and John Williams (War Horse). The award marks Bource’s first BAFTA win. The composer has previously received the Golden Globe for his work on the black-and-white silent film and is considered to be the frontrunner to win the Academy Award on February 26. Alexandre Desplat has won the Orange British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) in the Original Music category for his score for The King’s Speech. The award was presented to him by singer/songwriter Paul McCartney. Desplat’s competitors in the category were A.R. Rahman for 127 Hours, Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland, John Powell for How to Train Your Dragon and Hans Zimmer for Inception. The award marks Desplat’s first BAFTA after being nominated before for Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. The British Academy of Television and Film Arts has announced the longlists for this year’s British Academy Film Awards, with 15 entries per category. Here are the contenders for the ‘Best Music’ category:
Last Sunday, Michael Giacchino won his first British Academy of Film and Television Award for his original music for Pixar’s animated feature Up. Earlier this year, he already won a Grammy, as well as a Golden Globe Award for the score and he is the frontrunner to go home with an Academy Award as well when winners are announced on March 7.
