Michael Giacchino has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The composer is replacing Alexandre Desplat who was originally scoring the film directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker. The movie takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and tells the story of unlikely heroes who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star.

Rolfe Kent Scoring Kevin Tent’s ‘Crash Pad’
Rolfe Kent has recently composed the original score for the upcoming romantic comedy Crash Pad. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated editor Kevin Tent (The Descendants, Nebraska) and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, Thomas Haden Church and Nina Dobrev. The movie follows a hopeless romantic who thinks he’s found true love with an older woman, only to learn that she’s married and that his fling is merely an instrument of revenge against her neglectful husband. Jeremy Catalino has written the Black List-honored screenplay.
John Powell to Score Blue Sky Studios’ ‘Ferdinand’
John Powell confirmed in a recent interview with Omar Crook on the Living with a Genius podcast that he is reteaming with director Carlos Saldanha on the upcoming animated feature Ferdinand. The movie is based on the the children’s book The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf & Robert Lawson and revolves around a bull who doesn’t want to fight in the bullfighting arena like so many of his brethren but instead just wants to smell the flowers. Bruce Anderson (Horton Hears a Who!) is producing the Blue Sky Studios production with Lori Forte (Ice Age series, Epic).
Rupert Gregson-Williams to Score ‘Terminal’
Rupert Gregson-Williams is set to compose the music for the upcoming thriller Terminal. The film is written and directed by Vaughn Stein and stars Margot Robbie, Simon Pegg, Max Irons, Mike Myers and Dexter Fletcher. The movie follows two hit men who embark on a borderline suicide mission for a mysterious employer and a high paycheck and come across a dynamic woman who may be more involved in the crime than they had originally suspected. David Barron (Harry Potter series, Cinderella, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) is producing the project with Robbie, Molly Hassell (Edmond, The Trust), Arianne Fraser, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr.

Adam Wiltzie has recently composed the music for the upcoming drama The Yellow Birds. The film is directed by Alexandre Moors (Blue Caprice) and stars Jack Huston, Jennifer Aniston, Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich, Toni Collette and Jason Patric. The movie based on the novel by Kevin Powers follows two young soldiers who are taken under the wing of an older, troubled sergeant as they are deployed to Iraq. David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) has written the screenplay.

Thomas Newman has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi romance Passengers. The film is directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne and Aurora Perrineau. The movie is set on a spacecraft in the future traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people that has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early. Jon Spaihts (Prometheus, The Darkest Hour) has written the screenplay.

Alberto Iglesias is set to compose the music for the upcoming political thriller The Summit (La Cordillera). The film is directed by Santiago Mitre (Paulina, The Student) and stars Ricardo Darin, Dolores Fonzi, Erica Rivas, Elena Anaya, Gerardo Romano, Paulina Garcia, Alfredo Castro and Daniel Gimenez Cacho. The movie revolves around the president of Argentina whose darkest past threatens to catch up with him at a three-day conference, forcing him to choose between his career and family.

Walter Murphy has composed the music for the upcoming comedy The Late Bloomer. The film is directed by Kevin Pollak and stars Johnny Simmons, J.K. Simmons, Maria Bello, Brittany Snow, Jane Lynch, Kumail Nanjiani, Paul Wesley, Ken Marino, Beck Bennett, Illeana Douglas Blake Cooper, Charlotte McKinney, Vanessa Ragland and Lenora Crichlow. The movie is loosely based on Ken Baker’s 2001 memoir Man Made: A Memoir of My Body and follows a 30-year old man who – after the successful removal of a benign tumor resting against his pituitary gland – experiences all the changes and effects of puberty over a three-week period.

Federico Jusid to Score & Produce Netflix’s ‘Seven Years’
Federico Jusid is composing the music for Spain’s first Netflix original movie Seven Years. The film is directed by Roger Gual (Smoking Room, Tasting Menu) and stars Paco Leon, Alex Brendemuhl, Manuel Moron, Juana Acosta and Juan Pablo Raba. The drama tells the story of four friends and founding-partners in a company who one night are forced to find a solution that can save their friendship and themselves. Jose Cabeza and Julia Fontana have written the screenplay. Jusid is also producing the project with Cristian Conti (Undertow, Out of the Dark, Rage) for Cactus Flower.
