Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, The Queen, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla) is attached to score the upcoming biographical drama LEE. The film will be directed by Ellen Kuras (The Betrayal) and star Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Andrea Riseborough and Josh O’Connor. The movie centers on the wartime experiences of Lee Miller who traded a glamorous career as a Vogue cover model for a dangerous career as a WWII photographer who chronicled the fighting on the allied front lines and exposed the atrocities of Hitler’s Nazi Germany. Liz Hannah (The Post) is writing the screenplay. Winslet is also producing the project with Finola Dwyer (Brooklyn, An Education), Troy Lum (The Water Diviner) and Andrew Mason (Dark City). LEE is set to start shooting in late summer to early fall of 2022. A release in 2023 is expected. (Deadline)
Desplat also has Guillermo del Toro’s animated feature Pinocchio coming up and is also attached to score Rebecca Miller’s She Came to Me. The composer’s other recent projects include Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, which is opening in select U.S. theaters this weekend, Martin Bourboulon’s Eiffel, which opened in French theaters last week and Guillaume Canet’s Lui, which will be released in France next week.
