Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Inside Man, Malcolm X, 25th Hour, Da 5 Bloods) has been hired to score the upcoming drama Bruised. The film marks the directorial debut of actress Halle Berry who also stars in the movie as Jackie Justice, a washed-up MMA wrestler who has to conquer her own demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world and and deal with the return of her 6-year-old son. Shamier Anderson, Adan Canto and Sheila Atim are co-starring. Michelle Rosenfarb wrote the screenplay. Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, The Town), Brad Feinstein (The Banker, American Woman), Erica Lee (John Wick series), Linda Gottlieb (Dirty Dancing) and Guymon Casady (Steve Jobs, Hope Springs) are producing the project. Bruised is set to premiere this September at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival.
Blanchard’s other recent projects include HBO’s Perry Mason, which currently airs every Sunday night. The composer also has National Geographic’s Genius: Aretha (to premiere this fall) coming up.
