Five new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Already playing in theaters since this past Tuesday is the animated sequel The Angry Birds Movie 2 directed by Thurop Van Orman and starring Jason Sudeikis, Danny McBride, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and Leslie Jones. The film’s original score is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Also opening wide is the shark thriller 47 Meters Down: Uncaged directed by Johannes Roberts and starring Sophie Nélisse, Corinne Foxx, Brianne Tju, Sistine Stallone, Davi Santos, Khylin Rhambo, Brec Bassinger, John Corbett and Nia Long. tomandandy (The Strangers, Resident Evil: Retribution, The Mothman Prophecies) have composed the film’s original music. Also opening nationwide is the comedy Good Boys directed by Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky and starring Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams, Brady Noon. The film’s original score is composed by Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Love, Crashing). No soundtrack album has been released. Another wide release this week is the musical drama Blinded by the Light directed by Gurinder Chadha and starring Viveik Kalra, Hayley Atwell, Rob Brydon, Kulvinder Ghir, Nell Williams, Dean-Charles Chapman and Aaron Phagura. A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by Bruce Springsteen, as well as two tracks from Rahman’s score. Click here for the full album details.
Also opening wide is the comedy Where’d You Go, Bernadette co-written and directed by Richard Linklater and starring Cate Blanchett, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig, Emma Nelson, James Urbaniak, Judy Greer, Troian Bellisario, Zoe Chao and Laurence Fishburne. The film’s original music is composed by Graham Reynolds (A Scanner Darkly, Bernie, Before Midnight, Last Flag Flying). Opening in limited release is the documentary Aquarela directed by Victor Kossakovsky about the transformative beauty and raw power of water. Eicca Topinnen of the Finnish symphonic metal band Apocalyptica has composed the film’s original music. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the music from the movie today. Also opening in limited release is the crime thriller Driven directed by Nick Hamm and starring Jason Sudeikis, Lee Pace, Judy Greer, Corey Stoll, Michael Cudlitz and Erin Moriarty. Geronimo Mercado (Speed Kills) has composed the film’s original music and Kathryn Kluge & Kim Allen Kluge (Silence) have provided additional music. Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The Lego Batman Movie) serves as the music producer. Globe has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Also opening in select theaters is the mystery thriller Gwen directed by William McGregor and starring Maxine Peake, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Jodie Innes, Richard Harrington, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Mark Lewis Jones. The film’s original music is composed by James Edward Barker (Lean on Pete, Final Score) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Opening in New York before expanding to more markets within the next couple of weeks is the indie drama Adam directed by Rhys Ernst and starring Nicholas Alexander, Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Leo Sheng, Chloe Levine and Margaret Qualley. Jay Wadley (Indignation, Tales of the City, The OA, Cruise) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced.
