Composer David Holmes is reuniting with director Steven Soderbergh on the upcoming Netflix original movie The Laundromat. The film stars Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas, Sharon Stone, Alex Pettyfer, David Schwimmer, Will Forte, Robert Patrick and Jeffrey Wright. The movie tells the story of the corrupt and secret world of financial crime that was exposed by the infamous Panama Papers leak. Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Informant!) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with Lawrence Grey (Lights Out), Gregory Jacobs (Edge of Tomorrow) and Michael Sugar (Spotlight). Holmes has previously collaborated with Soderbergh (Traffic, Erin Brockovich) on the Ocean’s trilogy, Out of Sight and Haywire, as well as on the HBO series Mosaic. The Laundromat will premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival and will be released in theaters and on Netflix later this year.
Holmes also continues to co-score BBC America’s Killing Eve, which will return for a third season in 2020. He also recently scored and produced the the upcoming British drama Ordinary Love directed by Lisa Barros D’Sa & Glenn Leyburn (Good Vibrations, Cherrybomb) and starring Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville. The movie centers around a long-standing couple facing a potentially life-changing cancer diagnosis. Northern Irish playwright Owen McCafferty wrote the screenplay. Also producing are Brian J. Falconer (The Dig) and Piers Tempest (The Wife, Churchill). Ordinary Love will premiere next month at the Toronto Film Festival.
FWIW almost the entire score for Killing Eve is repurposed from Haywire – that Holmes scores for Soderbergh almost a decade ago.
