Thomas Newman is set to reteam with director Sam Mendes on the upcoming World War I drama 1917. George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman have been cast in the film. No plot details have been announced yet. Mendes also wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns and is also producing the Amblin Partners production with Pippa Harris (Penny Dreadful, Call the Midwife), Jayne-Ann Tenggren and Callum McDougall (Into the Woods). Newman has previously scored most of Mendes’ previous features, including American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, Skyfall and Spectre. Production on 1917 is set to begin in April. The movie is currently scheduled to be released in select theaters on December 25 by Universal Pictures before expanding on January 11. Newman has also recently scored the Tolkien biopic starring Nicholas Hoult & Lily Collins (to be released in theaters on May 10) and John Lee Hancock’s The Highwaymen starring Kevin Costner & Woody Harrelson (to be released theatrically on March 15 and on Netflix on March 29). Soundtrack albums for both movies will be released by Sony Classical.
