Five new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the movie musical Mary Poppins Returns directed by Rob Marshall and starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, Joel Dawson, Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke. The film’s original score is composed by Marc Shaiman (Hairspray, A Few Good Men, Misery) who also wrote the movie’s original songs with Scott Wittman. Opening today is the comic book movie Aquaman directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman, Ludi Lin and Temuera Morrison. Rupert Gregson-Williams (Wonder Woman, Hacksaw Ridge, The Legend of Tarzan) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening nationwide is the sci-f adventure Bumblebee directed by Travis Knight and starring Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Justin Theroux, Angela Bassett, Stephen Schneider and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. The film’s original score is composed by Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Darkest Hour, Anna Karenina). Paramount Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score (click here for the full album details). Another wide release this week is the comedy Second Act directed by Peter Segal and stars Jennifer Lopez, Leah Remini, Vanessa Hudgens, Treat Williams and Milo Ventimiglia. Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Bridesmaids, Freaks and Geeks, Funny People, Bad Teacher) has composed the film’s original score. Two cues (The Interview & The Pink Room) from the score are now available to download. Sony Masterworks and STX Recordings have released the original song Limitless performed by Lopez and written by Sia Furler & Jesse Shatkin. Check out our announcement to learn more about the track.
Also opening wide this weekend is the drama Welcome to Marwen directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Steve Carell, Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Merritt Wever, Janelle Monáe, Eiza González, Gwendolyn Christie, Leslie Zemeckis and Neil Jackson. The film’s original music is composed by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Marvel’s The Avengers). Opening in limited release is the Polish drama Cold War co-written and directed by Pawel Pawlikowski and starring Joanna Kulig and Tomasz Kot. Milan Records has released a soundtrack single featuring three songs from the film performed by Kulig. Marcin Masecki has provided the song arrangements and also composed original music for the film. Also opening in limited release is the supernatural thriller Between Worlds written and directed by Maria Pulera and starring Nicolas Cage, Franka Potente, Penelope Mitchell, Garret Clayton, Lydia Hearst, Brit Shaw and Hopper Penn. The film’s original score is composed by Jason Solowsky. Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive) has composed the main theme. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a struggling truck driver haunted by the memory of his deceased wife and daughter who meets a woman with mysterious spiritual powers, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Saban Films.
Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the action thriller American Renegades directed by Steven Quale and starring Sullivan Stapleton, Charlie Bewley, Alain Blazevic, Sylvia Hoeks, Joshua Henry, Andrej Dojkic, Diarmaid Murtagh, Dimitri Leonidas, Clemens Schick, Ewen Bremner and J. K. Simmons. Eric Serra (The Fifth Element, Goldeneye, Lucy, The Big Blue, Leon: The Professional) has composed the film’s original music.
