Tyler Bates has signed on to score the upcoming crime drama Billionaire Boys Club. The film is directed by James Cox (Wonderland, Highway) and stars Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton, Kevin Spacey, Emma Roberts, Suki Waterhouse, Bokeem Woodbine, Billie Lourd, Jeremy Irvine and Judd Nelson. The movie is based on the true story of a group of wealthy young men in Los Angeles during the early 1980s who established a get-rich quick scam that turned deadly. Cox also co-wrote the screenplay with Captain Mauzner (Factory Girl). Holly Wiersma (Bobby, Bug, Stone) and Cassian Elwes (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Elvis & Nixon) are producing the Armory Films production. Billionaire Boys Club is expected to premiere later this year.
Bates whose most recent project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, is opening in theaters nationwide this weekend, also has Marvel’s Netflix series The Punisher coming up. The composer also has the comedy drama The Public written and directed by Emilio Estevez coming up. The film starring Alec Baldwin, Taylor Schilling, Jena Malone, Gabrielle Union, Christian Slater, Estevez himself and Che “Rhymefest” Smith centers on a standoff with police and library officials when library patrons stage a sit-in, turning the Cincinnati Public Library into an impromptu homeless shelter for one night during a cold snap. Lisa Niedenthal, Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce (Sugar Mountain) are producing the project for Oriah Entertainment. Bates has previously scored Estevez’s last directorial effort, The Way. The Public is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year.
