Martin Phipps is composing the music for the upcoming mini-series The Honourable Woman. The eight-part drama is created by Hugo Blick (The Shadow Line, Up in Town) and stars Maggie Gyllenhaal as Nessa Stein, the daughter of a Zionist arms procurer who as a child witnessed her father’s assassination. Stephen Rea, Lindsay Duncan, Janet McTeer, Andrew Buchan, Katherine Parkinson, Lubna Azbal, Tobias Menzies, Igal Naor, Eve Best and Genevieve O’Reilly are co-starring. Blick is also executive producing the Sundance and BBC Worldwide North America production with Greg Brenman (Billy Elliot) and Abi Bach (Small Island). The Honourable Woman is set to premiere later this year on SundanceTV in the U.S. and on BBC Two in the UK.
As previously reported, the composer whose previous film scoring credits include Brighton Rock and Harry Brown also has the drama The Keeping Room starring Brit Marling, Hailee Steinfeld and Sam Worthington coming up. Also coming up for Phipps is the comedy drama X Plus Y. The film marks the narrative feature directorial debut of documentarian Morgan Matthews (The Fallen, 7/7: One Day in London) and stars Asa Butterfield, Sally Hawkins, Rafe Spall and Eddie Marsan. The movie follows a teenage prodigy’s journey to the Mathematics Olympiad, and his quest to find a formula for love. James Graham (This House) has written the screenplay inspired by Matthews’ 2007 documentary Beautiful Young Minds. David Thompson (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, The Awakening) and Laura Hastings-Smith (Hunger) are producing the Origin Pictures, Minnow Films, BBC Films production. X Plus Y is expected to premiere later this year.
