Alexandre Desplat revealed during a conversation and performance of his Oscar-nominated score for Philomena on Sunday afternoon at the Beverly Hills Hotel that he will be reteaming with Roman Polanski on the director’s next movie D. The film tells the true story of Albert Dreyfus, one of the few Jewish officers on the General Staff of the French Army, who was subjected to a secret court martial for passing secrets to the Germans. Robert Harris (The Ghost Writer) has written the screenplay and Robert Benmussa (The Pianist, High Tension) and Alain Sarde (Mulholland Drive, Vera Drake) are serving as producers. The political thriller will mark the fourth collaboration between the composer and Polanski following 2010’s The Ghost Writer, 2011’s Carnage and last year’s Venus in Fur.
Desplat also mentioned that he will be reuniting with Italian director Matteo Garrone. The director’s next film is the period fantasy The Tale of Tales based on three tales from Giambattista Basile’s Lo cunto de li cunti. Salma Hayek and Vincent Cassel are set to star in the movie. Archimede Film is producing the project with Jean Labadie’s Le Pacte. The composer has previously scored Garrone’s satirical drama Reality. The Tale of Tales is set to shoot this spring in Italy.
In addition, the composer is completing his score for Godzilla this week and also has the drama Unbroken directed by Angelina Jolie coming up.
