David Wingo has signed on to score the upcoming zombie thriller Maggie . The film is directed by Henry Hobson and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin and Joely Richardson. The movie centers on a farm family who helps their eldest daughter come to terms with her infection as she slowly becomes a flesh-eating zombie as a virus spreads across the country. John Scott 3 has written the Black List-honored script. Schwarzenegger is also producing the project with Pierre-Ange Le Pogam (Colombiana, Hitman), Matt Baer (City by the Sea, View from the Top), Trevor Kaufman, Colin Bates and Joey Tufaro. Maggie is currently in post-production. No word yet on a release date.
Wingo is also reuniting with director Jeff Nichols on the sci-fi drama Midnight Special. The film is written and directed by Jeff Nichols and stars Michael Shannon, Kirsten Dunst, Joel Edgerton and Adam Driver. The movie follows a father and son who go on the run after the dad learns his 8 year-old child possesses special powers. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister) and Sarah Green (The Tree of Life, Frida, The New World) are producing the Warner Bros. Pictures production. Wingo has previously scored Nichols’ previous two critically acclaimed features Take Shelter and Mud. Midnight Special is expected to premiere later this year or in 2015.
As previously reported, Wingo’s other upcoming projects also include David Gordon Green’s Manglehorn (co-scored with Explosions in the Sky). The composer is also composing the score for Chris Messina’s currently untitled directorial debut. The drama starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Derek Luke, Don Johnson, as well as Messina himself centers on an environmental lawyer who is left to raise her 12-year-old son alone after her husband bolts. Jessica Goldberg (Parenthood), Katie Nehra and Justin Shilton have written the screenplay.Jamie Patricof & Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines, Half Nelson) are producing the Electric City Entertainment production. No word yet on a premiere date.
