Nathan Whitehead is reteaming with director James DeMonaco on the upcoming thriller sequel The Purge 2. The film stars Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is reportedly taking place in a similar setting to the original, where, once a year, there’s a 12-hour period when all crime is allowed and condoned. DeMonaco is also writing the screenplay and Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Sinister, Insidious) is once again producing the Blumhouse production with Sebastien Lemercier and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company. Whitehead has previously scored last year’s original film, which grossed almost $65 Mio. at the domestic box office. The Purge 2 is set to be released on June 20, 2014 by Universal Pictures.
As previously reported, Whitehead is also scoring the upcoming TNT series The Last Ship produced by Michael Bay. Also coming up for the composer is the horror thriller The Remaining directed by Casey La Scala (Grind) and starring Alexa Vega, Italia Ricci, Bryan Dechart and Shaun Sipos. The movie follows a group of friends as they scramble to survive a Rapture-like phenomena and is expected to premiere later this year. Whitehead has also scored the upcoming mob thriller God Only Knows directed by James Mottern and starring Ben Barnes, Toby Jones, Leighton Meester and Harvey Keitel. The film follows a smooth-talking, ambitious young man from the streets of Boston who found himself living a life of petty crime. The thriller is also expected to premiere in 2014.
