Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the live-action adaptation of the animated feature Moana directed by Thomas Kail and starring Catherine Lagaʻai, Dwayne Johnson, Rena Owen, John Tui and Frankie Adams. The film’s original songs are composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Encanto, Hamilton, In the Heights), Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina (Twister, Brother Bear, Tarzan, Speed, Bad Boys, August Rush, Planes, Con Air) and the film’s original score is composed by Mancina. Walt Disney Records has released three different soundtrack albums: the regular album featuring the songs (also available on vinyl), the deluxe edition featuring both the songs and score, as well as instrumental versions of the songs, and the score album. Also opening wide this weekend is the supernatural horror movie Evil Dead Burn directed by Sébastien Vaniček and starring Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Luciane Buchanan, Hunter Doohan, Errol Shand, George Pullar, Maude Davey and Greta Van Den Brink. Double Danger (aka Douglas Cavanna & Xavier Caux) (Infested) have composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score last Friday. Waxwork Records will release a vinyl edition. Also opening nationwide is the comedy Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass co-written and directed by David Wain and starring Zoey Deutch, Ken Marino, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Ben Wang. John Slattery and Jon Hamm. The film’s original music is composed by Craig Wedren (We Hot American Summer, Yellowjackets, School of Rock, Role Models, New Amsterdam, GLOW). Tough Lover has released a soundtrack EP featuring five songs written by Wedren and Amy Miles this past Monday. Opening in around 300 theaters is the erotic thriller Night Nurse written and directed by Georgia Bernstein and starring Cemre Paksoy, Bruce McKenzie, Eléonore Hendricks and Colleen Rose Trundy, Mimi Rogers. Steven Jackson & Sam Clapp have composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which takes place at an idyllic retirement community that is unsettled by a series of perverse scam calls and follows a starry-eyed nurse who becomes entangled with her mysterious patient, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by the Independent Film Company.
Also opening in select theaters this weekend is the western The Isolate Thief directed by John Suits and starring Mackenzie Foy, Odeya Rush, Jack Kesy, Joe Pantoliano, Ty Simpkins,Martin Sensmeier and Sean Bean. The film’s original music is composed by Jordan Lehning (Old Henry, Greedy People, The Dead Center, Easy Does It, Make-Out with Violence). Average Joe Entertainment will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on July 24. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the crime thriller Gangland directed by Vincent Grashaw and starring Lou Diamond Phillips, Nick Stahl, Irene Bedard, Dana Namerode, Lane Factor, Elisha Pratt and Kimberly Guerrero. James Wakefield (Bang Bang, Little Jar) has composed the film’s original music. Madame Claude Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last month.
