Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the biographical sports drama The Smashing Machine written and directed by Benny Safdie and starring Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Ryan Bader, Bas Rutten, Oleksandr Usyk, Lyndsey Gavin, James Moontasri, Satoshi Ishii, Yoko Hamamura, Stephen Quadros and Jason Tremblay. The film’s original music is composed by Belgian experimental jazz musician Nala Sinephro who has made her feature scoring debut on the project. Also opening wide this weekend is the horror thriller Bone Lake written and directed by Mercedes Byrce Morgan and starring Maddie Hasson, Alex Roe, Marco Pigossi and Andra Nechita. Roque Banos (Don’t Breathe, The Machinist, Evil Dead, In the Heart of the Sea, Come Play, Sexy Beast, The Girl in the Spider’s WebThe Killer’s Game) and Ben Cherney (The Kids Are Alright 2) have composed the film’s original music. Also opening nationwide is the supernatural horror thriller Good Boy co-written and directed by Ben Leonberg and starring Indy, Larry Fessenden, Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, Shane Jensen and Stuart Rudin. The film’s original music is composed by Sam Boase-Miller. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The movie, which revolves around a loyal dog who moves to a rural family home with his owner, only to discover supernatural forces lurking in the shadows, and must fight to protect the one he loves most, premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and is being distributed by IFC Films and Shudder.

Opening semi-wide in around 900 theaters is the drama Anemone co-written and directed by Ronan Day-Lewis and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Safia Oakley-Green and Samuel Bottomley. Bobby Krlic (aka The Haxan Cloak) (MidsommarBeef, Eddington, Blue Beetle, Beau Is Afraid, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, InvasionReturnal, SnowpiercerEenie Meanie) has composed the film’s original music. Opening in around 300 theaters this weekend is the horror thriller Coyotes directed by Colin Minihan and starring Justin Long, Kate Bosworth, Katherine McNamara, Norbert Leo Butz, Keir O’Donnell and Mila Harris. The film’s original music is composed by Brittany Allen (What Keeps You AliveZ, Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story, American Horror StoriesTorn Hearts, Scrambled) who also stars in the movie, which follows a family trapped in their Hollywood Hills home as they fight for survival when caught between a raging wildfire and a pack of savage coyotes. The film premiered at this year’s Fantastic Fest and is being distributed by Aura Entertainment.

Opening in select theaters today is the supernatural western Killing Faith.written and directed by Ned Crowley and starring Guy Pearce, DeWanda Wise, Raoul Trujillo, Jack Alcott, Emily Ford, Joanna Cassidy, Jamie Neumann and Bill Pullman. Brooke Blair & Will Blair (Green Room, Rebel RidgeI Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore,The Toxic Avenger, The Informer, Hold the Dark, Black Christmas, Blue Ruin) have composed the film’s original music. Opening in Los Angeles and New York this weekend before expanding to more markets over the next weeks is the coming-of-age drama Fairyland written and directed by Andrew Durham and starring Emilia Jones, Scoot McNairy, Geena Davis, Maria Bakalova, Cody Fern and Adam Lambert. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Penn (Girls, Boogie Nights, Masters of Sex, On the VergeThe Last Kiss, Sunshine Cleaning). No word on a soundtrack release.
