Mateo Messina (Juno, Blockers, Tall Girl, Superstore, Butter, The Wrong Missy, Desperados, Barely Lethal) is attached to score the upcoming indie dramedy The Swimming Lesson. The film is directed by Casey Twenter and will star Heidi Gardner and William H. Macy. The movie revolves around a single mother who leaves behind her complicated life in Los Angeles to return to her childhood home, where she winds up embroiled in a custody battle over her autistic son who is obsessed with the ocean but terrified of swimming. Twenter also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Robison (Rudderless, The Scent of Rain & Lightning) who is also producing the project for Kindling Productions, alongside Dan Koetting for KP’s Remain and Jen Greenstreet & Mandi Kearns for Just Like You Films. The Swimming Lesson is set to shoot this summer in Kansas City. (THR)
Messina has also recently made his feature directorial debut on the musical Reimagined (starring Joel McHale, Paula Patton & Yonas Kibreab) based on his original symphony The Pageant.
