Composer Marco Beltrami (Scream, 3:10 to Yuma, Logan, A Quiet Place, Ford v. Ferrari, The Hurt Locker, Hellboy, The Wolverine) is reuniting with director Bong Joon Ho (Parasite, Mickey 17) on the upcoming animated movie Ally. The movie marks the Academy Award-winning filmmaker’s animated feature debut and tells the story of a a curious piglet squid living in the uncharted depths of the South Pacific Ocean dreaming of one day seeing the sun and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary whose peaceful world is suddenly thrown into danger when a mysterious aircraft goes down into the sea, setting her on a journey that will take her all the way to the surface. Bong also co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Yu (Sleep). Seo Woo-sik (Okja, Mother) is producing the project for Barunson Entertainment. Beltrami has previously collaborated with Bong on 2013’s Snowpiercer. Ally is set to be released in 2027.
Beltrami’s other recent projects include Marina Zenovich’s Netlix documentary The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson, which will premiere tomorrow. He also has Jean-Francois Richet’s Quasimodo (co-scored with Marcus Trumpp) coming up.
