Rupert Gregson-Williams (Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Hacksaw Ridge, Over the Hedge, Smallfoot, The Legend of Tarzan, Hotel Rwanda, The Perfect Couple) has provided the original score for the upcoming Netflix original film Happy Gilmore 2. The movie is directed by Kyle Newacheck (Game Over, Man!) and stars Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Travis Kelce, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, John Daly, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Conor Sherry and Ethan Cutkosky. The sequel to the 1996 original comedy (scored by Mark Mothersbaugh) follows the titular golfer as he return to the game after a long absence. Sandler also co-wrote the screenplay with Tim Herlihy (The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy). They are both also producing the Happy Madison production with Jack Giarraputo (Anger Management, 50 First Dates) and Robert Simonds (Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther). Gregson-Williams has previously collaborated with Newacheck on 2019’s Netflix film Murder Mystery and also scored numerous projects for Sandler’s Happy Madison production company over the last two decades. Happy Gilmore 2 will premiere on July 25, 2025 exclusively on Netflix.
Gregson-Williams also continues to co-score HBO’s The Gilded Age (with Harry Gregson-Williams), which will return for its third season tomorrow, June 22.
It would’ve been cool if they’d brought back Mark Mothersbaugh to try and recapture the same musical sound as the original.
