The post-rock band Explosions in the Sky is reuniting with director Peter Berg on the new Netflix limited series American Primeval. The show is created by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Twisters), directed by Berg and stars Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Dane DeHaan, Shea Whigham, Jai Courtney, Saura Lightfoot Leon, Preston Mota and Joe Tippett. The 6-part western drama tells the story of a mother and son fleeing from their past who form a found family while confronting a harsh landscape of freedom and cruelty in the American West. Smith & Berg are also executive producing the project with Grand Electric’s Eric Newman (Children of Men, Narcos) and Alex Gayner. Explosions in the Sky have previously collaborated with Berg on his directorial efforts Friday Night Lights and Lone Survivor. The band’s other scoring credits include David Gordon Green’s features Prince Avalanche & Manglehorn and an episode of PBS’ Nature. American Primeval will premiere on January 9, 2025 on Netflix.
