Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sci-fi horror thriller Afraid written and directed by Chris Weitz and starring John Cho, Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose Liu,Lukita Maxwell,  David Dastmalchian and Keith Carradine. The film’s original score is composed by Alex Weston (The Farewell, ExpatsWander Darkly, The Adults, The Novice, Goodnight Mommy) who also co-wrote the original song I Love You (with Weitz) for the project. Madison Gate Records will release a soundtrack album according to the movie’s end credits, but no announcement has been made yet. Also opening wide is the biographical drama Reagan directed by Sean McNamara and starring Dennis Quaid, Penelope Ann Miller, Jon Voight, Kevin Dillon, Olek Krupa, David Henrie, Mena Suvari, Xander Berkely, C. Thomas Howell, Trevor Donovan, Robert Davi, Kevin Sorbo Lesley-Anne Down and Jennifer O’Neill. John Coda (Bratz, The King’s Daughter, HooveyCats & Dogs 3: Paws Unite) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a score release. Also opening nationwide is the crime thriller 1992 co-written and directed by Ariel Vromen and starring Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood, Ray Liotta, Clé Bennett, Michael Beasley, Dylan Arnold, Tosin Morohunfola, Christopher A’mmanuel, Oleg Taktarov and Ori Pfeffer. The film’s original score is composed by Gilad Benamram (FaudaSuspicion, Club Life, Bard of BloodThe Girl on the Train). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music today. Another movie opening nationwide this weekend is the drama City of Dreams written and directed by Mohit Ramchandani and starring Jason Patric, Alfredo Castro, Ari Lopez, Paulina  Gaitan, Samm Levine, Francisco Denis and Diego Calva. Lisa Gerrard (GladiatorWhale RiderAliThe Insider) and Bennett Salvay (Jeepers CreepersFriday Night Lights, Fuller House, Anger Management) have composed the film’s original score. Also opening nationwide is the sci-fi thriller Slingshot directed by Mikael Håfström and starring Casey Affleck, Laurence Fishburne and Emily Beecham. The film’s original score is composed by Steffen Thum (Crawl, Stockholm Bloodbath, iBoyWarning Shot) and produced by Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning & Fallout, Black Widow, His Dark Materials, Bad Boys for LifeBlack AdamTop Gun: Maverick). Opening semi-wide in around 800 theaters is the sports drama You Gotta Believe directed by Ty Roberts and starring Luke Wilson, Greg Kinnear, Sarah Gadon, Lew Temple, Michael Cash, Etienne Kellici and Molly Parker. Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready (The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley: The Searcher, Fat Kid Rules the WorldSadie) is credited as providing “original songs” and also contributed several instrumental rock tracks to the film. Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the Australian drama Take My Hand co-written and directed by John Raftopoulos and starring Radha Mitchell, Adam Demos, Meg Fraser, Bart Edwards and Xavier Molyneux. The film’s original music is composed by Angela Little (Never Too Late, StreamlineDive Club, The Clinic, Back of the Net, Swimming for Gold). The composer has released a soundtrack album featuring her score last week when the movie opened in Australia. Also opening in select cities is the documentary Seeking Mavis Beacon directed by Jazmin Renée Jones and about the educational software Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing that was launched in the 1980s and the program’s Haitian-born cover model that vanished decades ago. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the survival thriller Out Come the Wolves directed by Adam MacDonald and starring Missy Peregrym, Joris Jarsky and Damon Runyan.
