Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sci-fi adventure Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes directed by Wes Ball and starring Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, William H. Macy and Peter Macon. The film’s original music is composed by John Paesano (Daredevil, The Maze Runner, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Cheaper by the Dozen, Invincible, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Truth Be Told). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide is the comedy Not Another Church Movie written and directed by Johnny Mack and starring Kevin Daniels, Jamie Foxx, Vivica A. Fox, Kyla Pratt, Tisha Campbell, Jasmine Guy, Lamorne Morris, Luc Ashley, Buddy Lewis, T’Shaun Barret and Mickey Rourke. Ainz “Brainz” Prasad (Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!) and Ameya Saraf have composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a billionaire talk show host who uses her direct connection to God to demand he deliver a hero to help her plummeting ratings, is being released by Briarcliff Entertainment.
Opening in select theaters is the noir comedy Poolman co-written and directed by Chris Pine and starring Pine himself, Annette Bening, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Danny DeVito, DeWanda Wise, Stephen Tobolowsky, Clancy Brown, John Ortiz, Juliet Mills and Ray Wise. The film’s original music is composed by Andrew Bird (Norman, Baskets, The Bubble, Outside In). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the Australian crime thriller Force of Nature: The Dry 2 directed by Robert Connolly and starring Eric Bana, Anna Torv and Deborra-Lee Furness. Peter Raeburn (Woodshock, Photograph, Nancy, Handling the Undead, Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism) who has previously scored the 2021 original The Dry movie has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released yet. The sequel, which follows Detective Aaron Falk who must solve the mystery when five women head out on a remote hiking retreat but only four return, is being released by IFC Films.
Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Netflix next Friday, May 17 is the documentary Power co-written and directed by Yance Ford. The film’s original music is composed by Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (Candyman, Telemarketers, Master, Grasshopper Republic). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be announced soon. Caroline Ho (Rap Sh!t) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release for the movie, which follows a doting mom who jets off to a tropical island resort for her daughter’s wedding, only to discover the groom’s father is the ex she hasn’t seen in decades.
