Torin Borrowdale (Locke & Key, Searching, Five Days at Memorial, Run, Spring, The Toll) has been tapped to score the upcoming Disney+ original movie Descendants: The Rise of Red. The film is directed by Jennifer Phang (Advantageous) and stars Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, Rita Ora, Brandy, Dara Reneé, Ruby Rose Turner, Joshua Colley, Morgan Dudley, Peder Lindell, Jeremy Swift, Grace Narducci, Paolo Montalban, China Anne McClain, Leonardo Nam and Melanie Paxson. The fantasy musical follows Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter, who must join forces and travel back in time to undo a traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path. Dan Frey and Russell Sommer wrote the screenplay. Suzanne Todd (Alice in Wonderland, Austin Powers) and Gary Marsh (Calendar Girl) are executive producing the project and Wendy S. Williams serves as producer. The movie will feature seven new original songs, two reprises and a cover of So This Is Love from the animated classic Cinderella. David Lawrence has previously scored the first three installments in the Descendants series. Descendants: The Rise of Red will premiere on July 12, 2024 on Disney+ and a soundtrack album will be released on the same day by Walt Disney Records.
