Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Babadook, Macbeth, The Oxford Murders, Overlord, The Mustang, Assassin’s Creed) has composed a new score for the upcoming action thriller Monkey Man. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor Dev Patel and stars Patel himself, Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher and Makarand Deshpande. The movie revolves around a man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor and powerless. Patel also co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Happy Feet). He is also producing the project with Jomon Thomas (Hotel Mumbai, The Man Who Knew Infinity), Monkeypaw’s Jordan Peele & Ian Cooper (Nope, Us), Win Rosenfeld (Candyman, Hunters), Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk (John Wick franchise, Sicario) & Erica Lee (Kandahar, Silent Night), as well as Christine Haebler (Shut In, Hector and the Search for Happiness) and Anjay Nagpal. Volker Bertelmann was originally scoring the movie back in 2021. Monkey Man is premiering tonight at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and will be released in theaters nationwide on April 5, 2024 by Universal Pictures.
