Songwriter/music producer and composer James Poyser (of The Roots) has recently scored the upcoming documentary Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story. The film is directed by Gelila Bekele & Armani Ortiz and centers on the writer, actor, filmmaker, studio head and media titan. The movie follows Perry as he becomes a father and media mogul with a mission to pave his own road to the top. Bekele is also producing the project with Jasmine K. White and Asante White (Tyson’s Run, The Other Side). Poyser has previously composed the music for the 2021 feature Boxing Day, this year’s documentary series The 1619 Project, and co-scored the most recent season of CBS’ The Equalizer, among other scoring projects. Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story will premiere later this month at the 2023 AFI Fest before making its streaming debut on November 17 on Prime Video.
