Will Bates (The Magicians, Unbelievable, I Origins, Away, The Path, Bliss, The Looming Tower) is scoring the upcoming biographical comedy drama Dumb Money. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella, Lars and the Real Girl) and stars Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Nick Offerman, America Ferrera, Anthony Ramos, Shailene Woodley, Sebastian Stan and Seth Rogen. The movie is based on the book The Antisocial Network by Ben Mezrich and tells the true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company. Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo wrote the screenplay. Gillespie is also producing the project with Aaron Ryder (Arrival, The Prestige, Mud) and Black Bear Pictures’ Teddy Schwarzman (The Imitation Game, Gold). Dumb Money is set to be released in New York and Los Angeles on September 15, 2023 by Sony Pictures before expanding to more markets the following week and opening in theaters nationwide on September 29.

Bates is also expected to score Season 2 of AMC’s Mayfair Witches, which has been renewed for a second season. He also recently scored Larry Fessenden’s horror film Blackout, which premiered last month at the Fantasia Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
