academyThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 398 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year are a number of film composers, including Ryan Lott, Ian Chang & Rafiq Bhatia who received their first Academy Award nomination this year (as part of Son Lux) for Everything Everywhere All at Once, David Byrne who was nominated in the Original Song category for Everything Everywhere All at Once and previously received a nomination in the Score category (and won the award) for The Last Emperor and M.M. Keeravaani who was nominated in the Original Song category this year for RRR. Also invited were David Buckley (Nobody, Papillon), Jean Michel Bernard (Ballad for a Pierced Heart, One Role for Two), Anna Drubich (Barbarian, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Zeltia Montes (The Good Boss, I’m Going to Have a Good Time), Dara Taylor (The Tender Bar, Strays), Anne-Kathrin Dern (The Devil Conspiracy, Fearless), Penka Kouneva (Ága, In Search of the American Dream) and Starr Parodi (The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, Bert Stern: Original Mad Man). Also invited were songwriters Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye who has contributed songs to Fifty Shades of Grey and Avatar: The Way of Water and Taylor Swift whose original film in movies credits include Where the Crawdads Sing and Cats, lyricists Chandrabose who was also nominated for RRR & Alain Boublil who received a nomination for co-writing the original song Suddenly from the Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables film adaptation, as well as music editor Dominick Certo (The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Hotel Transylvania 3).
