Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The LEGO Movie, The Royal Tenenbaums, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21/22 Jump Street, The Croods: A New Age) has recently scored the upcoming comedy Vacation Friends 2. The film is directed by Clay Tarver (Silicon Valley, Joy Ride) and stars Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji, Meredith Hagner, John Cena, Steve Buscemi, Ronny Chieng, Carlos Santos and Jamie Hector. The sequel picks up a few months after the end of the original Vacation Friends movie and finds newly married couple Marcus & Emily inviting their uninhibited besties Ron & Kyla to join them for a vacation when Marcus lands an all-expenses-paid trip to a Caribbean resort. Todd Garner (Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Mortal Kombat) and Stuart Besser (The Trial of the Chicago 7) are producing the 20th Century Studios production. Rolfe Kent has previously scored the original 2021 film. Vacation Friends 2 will premiere on August 25, 2023 on Hulu. A soundtrack album featuring Motherbaugh’s score will be released on the same day by Hollywood Records.
Mothersbaugh also continues to score (HBO) Max’s Our Flag Means Death, which has been renewed for a second season and co-score FX’s What We Do in the Shadows, which will return for its fifth season on July 13.
There’s a score album for this movie but not the first one. Is Rolfe Kent just not a draw?
