Christopher Bear (of the indie rock band Grizzly Bear) has composed the original score for the upcoming sci-fi romantic comedy If You Were the Last. The film is directed by Kristian Mercado and stars Anthony Mackie, Zoë Chao, Natalie Morales and Geoff Stults. The movie follows two astronauts three years into a NASA mission that has gone wrong as they begin a friendly, flirty debate about whether they’re better off spending their remaining days as friends. Angela Bourassa wrote the screenplay. Andrew Miano (The Farewell, Columbus), Dan Balgoyen (Prospect), Britta Rowings (Crush), Dennis Masel (Linoleum), Gabrielle Nadig (Little Woods, Standing Up, Falling Down), Jessamine Burgum (Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.), Kara Durrett (Save Yourselves!), Jon Levin and Sean Woods are producing the project. If You Were the Last will premiere this coming weekend at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival.

Bear (High Maintenance, Swallowed) has also recently co-scored Celine Song’s Past Lives (with Daniel Rossen), which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and will be released in theaters this June by A24.
