Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the British comedy drama Downton Abbey: A New Era directed by Simon Curtis and starring Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Penelope Wilton, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Joanne Froggatt, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock and Dominic West. The film’s original music is composed by John Lunn (Jamestown,The Last Kingdom, Grantchester, ShetlandBelgravia) who previously scored the all episodes of the Downton Abbey TV series and the first movie adaptation. Also opening wide this week is the horror drama Men written and directed by Alex Garland Garland and starring Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear and Paapa Essiedu. Ben Salisbury Geoff Barrow (Ex Machina, Devs, Annihilation, LuceHannaArchive 81, Free Fire) have composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore & Invada Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score today. Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Amazon Prime next Friday, May 27, is the satirical thriller Emergency directed by Carey Williams and starring RJ Cyler, Donald Elise Watkins, Sebastian Chacon, Sabrina Carpenter, Maddie Nichols and Madison Thompson. The film’s original music is composed by René G. Boscio (R#JTo Your Last Death30 Miles from Nowhere). Also opening in select theaters today is the documentary Hold Your Fire directed by Stefan Forbes about the longest hostage siege in NYPD history that sparked after Shu’aib Raheem tried to steal guns for self-defense and resulted in the tragic death of an NYPD officer. Jonathan Sanford (National Champions, As Wee See It, Teenage Bounty HuntersDare MeGood on Paper) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is being released by IFC Films.

Also opening in select U.S. theaters is the Italian sci-fi thriller Mondocane co-written and directed by Alessandro Celli and starring Dennis Protopapa, Giuliano Soprano, Barbara Ronchi, Alessandro Borghi, Federica Torchetti and Ludovica Nasti. The film’s original music is composed by Davide Tomat & Federico Bisozzi. Cinevox & GDM Music have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past March. Opening in select U.S. theaters and on VOD today is the British psychological thriller Cordelia co-written and directed by Adrian Shergold and starring Antonia Campbell-Hughes, Johnny Flynn, Michael Gambon and Joel Fry. Natalie Holt (Obi-Wan Kenobi, LokiKnightfall, Herself, Journey’s EndFever DreamBeecham House) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album been released. The movie, which follows a young woman living in London who meets her mysterious neighbor and quickly becomes suspicious of his motives, was released in the UK back in 2020 and is being distributed stateside by Screen Media Films.
