Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Little Miss Sunshine, Capote, The Good Dinosaur, The Addams Family) & Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, Shrek, Mulan, The Last Duel, Man on Fire, Kingdom of Heaven, The Equalizer) have teamed up to score the new Netflix original documentary Return to Space. The film is directed by Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Free Solo, The Rescue) and tells the story of SpaceX and Elon Musk’s nearly 20 year journey to send American astronauts back to space aboard U.S. rockets. The movie, which also features a new cover of David Bowie’s Starman performed by Sharon Van Etten during the film’s end credits sequence, centers on the engineers and astronauts chosen for the historic moment. Chin & Vasarhelyi are also executive producing the project with Anna Barnes. Return to Space will premiere this Thursday, April 7 exclusively on Netflix.
Danna’s other upcoming projects include Olivia Newman’s Where the Crawdads Sing (to be released in theaters on July 15) and Gregson-Williams also has the Disneynature documentary Polar Bear (premiering on April 22 on Disney+) coming up.
